The fall season is ideal for strategic planning programs and corporate retreats. Retreats provide the perfect getaway, allowing executives and board members an environment away from office pressure, but an opportunity to roll-up their shirt sleeves in a productive environment. While having a little fun, building camaraderie, and making new connections are important aspects, don’t overlook the importance of planning a focused agenda and a constructive meeting. Key Reminders: identify clear objectives, pinpoint key issues, focus on the real work (strategic plan, critical goals, vision, etc.), assign homework prior to the retreat, designate a scribe to track commitments and responsibilities, consider outside help (event planner, facilitator, chef, etc.), create a safe environment for decision making and problem solving discussions.
